How to Store Breast Milk

Storage times (healthy full-term)

Room temp (up to 77°F / 25°C): 4 hours.

Refrigerator (40°F / 4°C): up to 4 days.

Freezer (0°F / -18°C): 6 months best quality, up to 12 months acceptable.

Thawed in fridge: use within 24 hours; never refreeze.

Best practices

Store in 2–4 oz portions to minimize waste.

Label every bag with date and time.

Thaw overnight in fridge or under warm running water — never microwave.

Gently swirl (don't shake) to remix the fat layer.
