Home Birth Section & Supplies

What a midwife-supported home birth typically needs.

6 min read

Is home birth right for you?

Home birth is generally appropriate for low-risk, singleton, head-down pregnancies attended by a credentialed midwife (CPM, CNM) with a clear hospital transfer plan.

Discuss eligibility with a licensed midwife — risk factors like preeclampsia, GBS without antibiotics, or prior cesarean change the calculus.

Supplies checklist

Birth pool + liner, hose, submersible pump (if water birth).

Old sheets, plastic mattress cover, 20+ towels, peri pads, adult diapers.

Heating pad, crock pot for warm compresses, drinking straws, electrolytes, light snacks.

Mirror, flashlight, large bowl for placenta, gallon zip bags.

Newborn diapers, swaddle blankets, infant hat, baby thermometer.

Postpartum: cabbage leaves, witch hazel pads, herbal sitz bath.
