Types of doulas
Birth doula — continuous support before, during, and just after labor.
Postpartum doula — in-home support with recovery, feeding, sleep, and household for weeks 1–12.
Antepartum doula — bed-rest and high-risk pregnancy support.
Bereavement doula — loss and grief support.
Why it matters
Continuous labor support reduces cesarean rates ~25%, shortens labor ~40 min, and improves birth satisfaction (Cochrane Review, 2017).
How to find one
Open the Doulas tab inside Providers to browse verified local and virtual doulas.
Interview 2–3. Ask about scope, on-call backup, fees, sliding scale, and your insurance/HSA eligibility.
Many areas have free community doula programs — ask your provider or local health department.
